As a part of the environmental initiative that Cluj-Napoca’s city hall has undertaken, the city has informed that they will only be granting new taxi licenses for electric cars.

The city has already added an additional 20 electric buses in September 2019, now totaling 41 electric buses in circuit and it’s clear that Emil Boc’s vision for Cluj-Napoca, is to strongly encourage environmentally friendly public transport.

There are currently 2,469 taxi licenses granted in Cluj-Napoca, and the city plans to increase this to 2,500, with the additional 31 taxi licenses, being exclusively “green” authorisations for taxi drivers who are using only electric cars.

Also, any taxi license which is withdrawn or cancelled will act as a placeholder for new licenses under the same “green” taxi licenses.
