ANPC announced that, following checks carried out in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, numerous irregularities were discovered.

“Following the controls carried out in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, more than 200 tons of vegetable products were checked, and non-conformities were found in 121 tons, regarding the way of classification, presentation and marketing”the institution’s representatives sent in a statement.

According to ANPC, all 121 tons of non-compliant products were identified in a single wholesale platform, which indicates the extent of the situation in the market.

Following the detected irregularities, ANPC drew up control documents based on the provisions of Law no. 363/2007 on combating unfair commercial practices and applied sanctions in the amount of over 80,000 lei.

Among the problems identified were non-conformities such as differences in caliber and quality, as well as the classification of products in quality categories by referring to the provisions of a normative act that is no longer in force.

The checks also revealed inconsistencies between the laboratory documents: “Also, the checks revealed inconsistencies between the analysis documents that accompanied the products when they were introduced into the commercial circuit and the results of the tests carried out afterwards.”

ANPC specifies that the products came from outside the European Union, and the analyzes generated contradictory results, because, although they were accompanied by analysis documents attesting to the absence of pesticide residues, the tests carried out later in an EU member state, using the same determination method, confirmed the presence of three active substances from the pesticide category, in compliance with the maximum limits allowed.

Fines of millions of lei, applied in a few days

ANPC representatives also stated that sanctions of over 4.7 million lei were applied in just five days, after the inspectors carried out, between June 8-12, 2026, extensive control actions at over 1,500 economic operators.

The checks concerned the safety of the products sold, especially the products of vegetable origin and the bakery products, as well as the conditions in which public food services are provided.

Thus, following the controls, 1,061 contravention fines were applied, amounting to over 4.7 million lei, and 733 warnings.

Also, a definitive stop on the sale of non-compliant products, worth more than 157,000 lei, and a temporary stop on the sale of some products worth more than 771,000 lei were imposed.
