Three decades ago, in 1995, McDonald’s opened the first restaurant in Romania and brought a culinary experience and a new routine, but also a different way of spending time together. McDonald’s has grown with generations of customers and has become a place of meeting friends or family, first jobs, breaks between classes and simple but joyful moments.
Today, on its 30th anniversary, the brand celebrates this story built step by step with people, through a special project that focuses on emotions, memories and creativity.
The McDonald’s x Art Safari exhibition: 30 years through the eyes of contemporary Romanian artists
The partnership between McDonald’s and Art Safari marks a special moment in the anniversary campaign. It is a platform for creation, expression and emotional dialogue, which brings together two seemingly different worlds, but united by the same desire: to inspire and bring joy to people. The exhibition offers the public the opportunity to discover the brand in a different way, through the emotion and expressiveness of contemporary art.
Until December 14, visitors can explore at Art Safari a selection of works by contemporary Romanian artists who have transposed familiar moments into vibrant works inspired by the McDonald’s universe. Each of them reinterpreted, in their own style, the symbols and “feel-good” moments associated with McDonald’s, from spontaneous meetings to short breaks that become memories.
Among the visual artists present in the exhibition are Andreea Mogoșanu, Lucian Prună, Raluca Ilaria Demetrescu, Costin Ioniță, Maria Zurbagiu, Daniel Strungariu or Iolanda Mutu — each bringing a distinct perspective on the McDonald’s universe, from familiar symbols reinterpreted in painting, sculpture, tapestry, jewelry or installations that capture the emotion of a simple but meaningful break. The diversity of the artists’ techniques transforms the exhibition into an emotional map of the brand, built from details, symbols and gestures that are already familiar to us.
The exhibition is complemented by customer messages, now integrated into the exhibition space as part of the shared story built by the brand and its audience.
30 years of growth and commitment to people
Since the first restaurant opened in the mid-90s, McDonald’s evolution in Romania has been constant and sustainable, supported by customer trust. In 2000, the company already operated 44 restaurants, and in 2010 it had reached 63. Today, McDonald’s counts 111 restaurants in 33 cities across the country and a team of more than 7,000 employees, being the largest employer in the fast-service restaurant industry.
At the heart of this anniversary are the simple people and moments that have defined the past 30 years. The exhibition “I’m lovin’ for 30 years” is a celebration of the emotions that bring us together – a visual journey through three decades of memories, familiar tastes and stories that continue to inspire. By partnering with Art Safari, McDonald’s is turning the anniversary into a collective experience about art, community and the joy of being together.
The exhibition can be visited until December 14.
