The mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan, has, as mayor-in-chief, a basic salary of 24,150 lei, according to a document on salary income for positions within the PMB, dated 31.03.2024.

At the beginning of March, the mayor said in an interview, on Antena 3, what salary he receives, after four years at the head of the General City Hall of the Capital. “My salary now is 20,000 lei net. I had 16,000 lei, now it has increased. The rent is 590 euros, the installment is 580 euros and I am left with 14,000 lei. I'm pleased. I could have even less, because I could handle it“, said Nicușor Dan.

The salary of the sector mayors does not appear in the salary income statement of the specialized apparatus of the sector mayors from March 2024, but according to the salary law it is around 29,700 lei gross and 16,000 lei net.

For example, last year, the salary of the mayor of Sector 1 in Bucharest, Clotilde Armand, amounted to just over 12,000 lei, in December, according to the individual file posted on Facebook. The salaries of all budget officers increased, in January 2024, by 5%.

The interim president of the Chamber of Deputies, PSD deputy Alfred Simonis, candidate for the presidency of the Timiş County Council, said that he is in favor of increasing the mayors' salaries in order to attract high-performing people who are also motivated to develop the communities. “We will not do this reform, if we do not increase salaries a little, it is also true based on performance criteria. I would agree that mayors who absorb more than 1,000,000 euros of European funds, for example, should have double the salary, those who have no absorption at all should have half. And you will see people coming who want to attract European money“said Alfred Simonis, guest on the “La Mijloc” podcast.
