The Catalan municipality on the Costa Brava has adopted new rules aimed at controlling the excesses of party tourism. According to these rules, those who break the rules can expect fines between 300 and 1,500 euros, if the municipal ordinance receives final approval. These measures are scheduled to take effect at the end of June.
In the future, Platja d'Aro will ban inappropriate clothing, loud music, disruptive gatherings and parties that leave litter on the streets. According to the ABC newspaper and other media sources, walking shirtless or in bikinis in areas that are far from the beach will no longer be allowed.
Platja d'Aro is a popular party destination, with its 10,000 inhabitants hosting up to 150,000 tourists every day during the summer season.
“It's not about banning stag parties, we can't do that. But what we can prohibit, regulate and sanction is disturbing behavior in public spaces “, Mayor Mauricio Jimenez said, quoted by the newspaper El Periódico.
