For others, landscapes, beaches or locations where festivals and concerts are organized are important. But many other tourists find the food the most interesting part of the trip.
These are the ones who, as a rule, reserve at least 2-3 days to visit restaurants, markets with local delicacies, test street food and enjoy dishes they have never heard of before.
Based on the impressions of foodie travelers, Time Out has made a new ranking of the best urban gastronomic destinations in the world.
“Food is everything when you travel“Time Out editor Grace Beard told CNN Travel. “A good or bad meal can define a trip and is usually one of the things we remember“, he says.
The Italian city of Naples, the place where pizza was born, is also a favorite holiday destination for many Romanians. However, Naples also boasts sensational dishes and good restaurants.
To compile the list, Time Out surveyed thousands of tourists from around the globe and spoke to locals about their city's food options, while looking at quality and affordability.
In second place in the Time Out ranking is the South African city of Johannesburg, with restaurants in the Braamfontein neighborhood recommended, where the kota sandwich is eaten, a bread stuffed with tasty ingredients such as potato chips, sausage, egg and cheese, but and bunny chow, a South African dish of curry, meat and beans in bread.
In third place is Lima, Peru, where Time Out recommends visitors try the signature dishes of ceviche and arroz con pollo.
The list also includes the cities of Ho Chi Minh City (number four in the top), Beijing (number five) and Bangkok (number six).
