PNL President Nicolae Ciucă said on Friday that the reason why PNL is questioning the initial decision to organize the presidential elections in September is the overlap with the start of the school year.
“Everything that will be decided regarding the date of the elections will be decided in the coalition. When it comes to decisions made at this level, I don't think we need to talk about tricks. I have never had such behavior. The problem coming from the feedback and analysis of polling station heads (…) shows that it would overlap with the start of the school year”said Ciuca.
“It will have to be decided in the coalition and we will talk with the prime minister, there won't be any kind of problem. We are ready to participate in the presidential elections in accordance with the schedule established by the government”Ciucă also said.
Regarding the date of the presidential elections, which the liberals said could be moved closer to that of the parliamentary elections, the PSD leader became vehement and said that he excludes this not from the perspective of the head of the PSD, but from the capacity of prime minister.
Marcel Ciolacu announced that the PSD has its own strategy and that there is no doubt that it will have its own candidate, given that it clearly won the majority of localities in the local elections and, especially, after 20 years in which Romania had a president from the right.
Marcel Ciolacu insisted on the idea that the PSD will come up with a quick decision, which means that it is very likely that within the party the presidential candidate will be established, and the National Political Congress will take place without any emotion.
