At the Câmpina Hospital, patients are baked at 35 degrees in the rooms. Air conditioners “exist, are installed, are installed, only…”

Because the Câmpina Municipal Hospital operates without air conditioning, patients have only two options: either accept to suffer from the heat in the halls, where during this period 35 degrees were recorded in the premises, or refuse admission and go home untreated. The medical personnel also suffer because of the heat in which they have to work.

On Wednesday, Călin Tiu, the medical director of the health unit, said that the hospital benefited from investments from European funds, and the new air conditioning installations are installed, but cannot be used, due to misunderstandings between the builder and the town hall, reports Agerpres.

“From this point of view, the hospital was provided with external units until last year. We are the beneficiaries, through the town hall, of a 16-17 million euro infrastructure megaproject, European money plus some local contribution, and this project meant changing the roof, photovoltaics, new air conditioning installations. They exist, they are placed, they are mounted, only that, at the start-up and reception phase, due to a misunderstanding (…) between the town hall and the builder, the contract was terminated and we stayed, from May 17, when it was supposed to be ready and to work, I was left without any solution. We can’t even install air conditioning units on the external walls because the hospital was covered with European money”, explained the manager of the medical unit.

There are also some cooler areas in the Câmpina hospital, the ambulatory, which was renovated about 10 years ago, and has air conditioning, as well as the ATI areas, the operating rooms and the transfusion unit, as a result of the negotiations between the hospital management and builder, according to Călin Tiu.

“In the hospital, we managed to negotiate with the builder during the tire works and they left us the air units on the ATI, on the operating room, on the transfusion unit. We tried to improve as much as possible with cold water dispensers on the floors, but it is not possible to work in these conditions”,
he said.

Towards the end of the day, says the manager, the temperature rises to 35 degrees, on the sunny side of the hospital building, and some patients have refused to be admitted under these conditions, while others can hardly endure the conditions in the hospital.

“I notified the town hall with about five rows of papers, to which I received no response, I notified the builder repeatedly. After a month or so, we were informed that the contract was terminated”, added the hospital’s medical director.
