David Popovici, from another planet. Romania’s star, stunning victory at the Olympic Games

The big day has come for Romania, at the Olympic Games. Star David Popovici brought home the first medal for the tricolor delegation, stunningly winning the 200m freestyle race at the Olympic Games.

The Romanian returned second at 50 meters, then third halfway through the race. But the ending was absolutely fantastic. David recovered millimeter by millimeter and reached the finish line first, after one minute, 44 seconds and 72 hundredths. Just two hundredths ahead of Britain’s Matthew Richards, which translated into a finger tip.

After today’s race, David Popovici starts all over again, with the heats of the 100 meters freestyle, scheduled at 12:42, and the semifinals, in the evening session (9:30 p.m.). The final of the Olympic Games is scheduled for Wednesday evening, from 10:32 p.m.
