Eighth grade graduates who were not admitted to high school in the first stage have one more chance. Today, the second stage of admission to high school 2024 began, when the admission centers, the situation of free places, the venue and the schedule of aptitude tests or verification of knowledge of modern or native language will be displayed.

High school admission 2024, second stage. Who can sign up
- candidates who were computerized in the first stage of admission, but who did not submit their application files by the deadline;
- candidates who were rejected at the high schools/classes that organized aptitude tests;
- candidates who have taken modern language or mother tongue tests in the second stage;
- candidates who did not participate or participated in computerized allotment in the first stage of admission but, for various reasons, were not computerized;
- candidates for special places for Roma and candidates for places distinctly allocated to candidates with SEN in mass education units;
- 8th grade graduates who did not take the National Assessment.
Vacancies by county in the second stage of high school admission
At the end of the first stage of computerized distribution, the Ministry of Education announced a number of 6,961 vacancies at national level.
Vacancies in high schools in the country
According to the official figures, the most vacant seats left after distribution, compared to the total number of seats for the respective county, are registered in Ilfov (20% vacant seats), Călărași (17.10%), Mehedinți (16.35%), Sălaj (11.61%), Caraș Severin (11.15%), Harghita (10.98%), Arad (10.50%) and Covasna (10.37%). On the other hand, in Constanța county there was no place left for the second stage of high school admission in 2024.

In Bucharest, out of the 15,380 places up for grabs this year for future 9th grade students, 479 places remained free after distribution. In percentage terms, that’s 3.11%.
2024 High School Admission Calendar, second stage
August 2, 2024 – Display of the admission center, the situation of the remaining vacant places, including those intended for Roma candidates, as well as those intended for candidates with CES, the venue and the schedule of aptitude tests or verification of modern or native language knowledge.
August 5, 2024 – Enrollment of candidates for aptitude tests or modern or mother tongue knowledge verification tests, including candidates for special places for Roma and candidates for places distinctly allocated to candidates with CES in mass education units.
6 – 7 August 2024 – Carrying out aptitude tests or tests to verify modern or native language knowledge.
8 – 9 August 2024 – Displaying the results of aptitude tests and modern or native language knowledge tests and resolving any disputes.
12 – 14 August 2024 – Receiving the enrollment applications of candidates who were computerized in the first stage of admission, but who did not submit their enrollment files within the deadline, of candidates who were rejected at the high schools/classes that organized aptitude tests and of candidates who took modern language or mother tongue tests in the second stage, as well as candidates who did not participate or participated in the computerized assignment in the first admission stage but, for various reasons, were not assigned computerized, including candidates for special places for Roma and candidates for places specifically allocated to candidates with SEN in mainstream education units.
At this stage, the applications of the 8th grade graduates who did not take the National Assessment are also received.
19 – 20 August 2024 – The distribution of candidates from the second stage, by the county/municipality admission commission. The allocation is made according to a procedure established by the county/municipality of Bucharest admissions committee, published on the website of the county school inspectorate/of the Municipality of Bucharest and communicated to educational units by July 10, 2024.
August 20, 2024 – Admission to high school in 2024, the second stage ends with the transmission to the National Admission Center of the distribution results by confirming the completion of specific operations in the centralized IT application.
