Nicu Covaci, 76 years old, underwent brain surgery on March 22, at the Timişoara County Hospital.

diagnosis
The diagnosis made by the doctors was “expansive intracranial process”, the operation being an emergency. The surgical intervention, led by the team of renowned neurosurgeon Horia Pleș, lasted approximately six hours, during which a brain tumor was removed. Those close to the artist asked for discretion from fans and the media, the only official information being transmitted on Nicu Covaci’s Facebook page, only after the operation.“Hi all! For objective reasons and to protect Nicu’s condition, we have not provided information about the current situation. Nicu successfully passed a major hurdle (yet)! He underwent a delicate surgical intervention, which ended well! We would like to thank the medical team and all the friends who were close at these decisive moments! We wish him a sincere: Come on, back on stage!”, the Phoenix band members broadcast after the operation.
Message for those who judged him
Although the doctors at the Timiș County Hospital did not provide medical data about the patient, the anesthesiologist Dorel Săndesc, the manager of the medical unit – a great friend of the rockers – still wanted to post a message on Facebook, starting with a verse from the band’s song , “In the shadow of the great bear”.
“You judged me, condemned. But who are you?”. Today we know that all the problems that Nicu had were caused by an illness and that in fact it was a miracle, a miracle from God, that this man, despite the illness, was able to continue, do events, sing , carried by the force of his genius… Today is the time like everyone else those who tried, condemned and accused him on Nicu Covaci to ask for forgiveness, from him and from God”wrote Dorel Săndesc.
Recent message from bandmates
On Wednesday, July 31, Nicu Covaci’s colleagues sent a worrying message about Covaci’s health.
“Hello beautiful people!
We were saying, a little while ago, that we would come back with details about Nicu’s condition as soon as we had good news. And I kept waiting. And waited…
The reality is that things are not looking up at all. The post-operative treatment could not be completed due to complications, and this keeps us connected with emotions as well. Great emotions!
We will come back as the situation changes.
We thank you for the hundreds of messages and for being close to us during this difficult time! According to the wish of St. Nicholas to continue, with each meeting you give us the strength to stay united and in turn very close to you!
See you soon!
May it be reborn!“, it is stated in the post published by the Phoenix band.
UPDATE Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu sent a message of condolences.
“Romania is richer in heaven… May God place you in the company of the righteous, Nicu Covaci!” Gerorge Simon also wrote on Facebook.
