The death of Nicu Covaci, at the age of 77, after a few months ago he underwent an operation to remove a brain tumor, created a wave of emotion, on Friday evening, in the online environment. From simple fans to well-known artists, everyone wanted to leave a sad message for the missing great.

There is no rock fan in Romania who has not heard of Nicu Covaci, there is no artist for whom he has not been “a source of inspiration”, a model, “a dear friend”, so the messages flowed and continue to flow on social networks, reports Digi24.
“Smooth road, Nicu Covaci! Huge regrets!”, wrote the artist Mircea Baniciu in a post on Facebook, shortly after the disturbing news about the death of Nicu Covaci.
The two great rivals had just reconciled in October 2023, which gave Phoenix fans high hopes that the band would reunite in the golden formula, as Nicu Covaci himself had announced, at the beginning of 2022, during the events of the 60th anniversary years since its establishment.
“Smooth road, Nicu! Thanks for everything! Love and friendship are left behind! We love you to the sky and back! May it be reborn!”, is the message of Alin Dincă, leader of the Trooper band.
A final tribute goes to Nicu Covaci and drummer Nelu Dumitrescu: “Smooth road, Nicu Covaci! You were and will remain a source of inspiration, a great artist and a dear friend!”.
“This time it’s really true… God rest you in His peace, Nicu… How hard it will be for us to talk about you in the past tense. But how much immortality in everything you left us as a legacy… For everything you were, for everything you are and for everything you will remain in the eternity of moments, we thank you deeply…”, the folk singer Maria Gheorghiu also wrote.
Former member of the band Phoenix, Ovidiu Lipan Ţîndărică wanted to remind everyone about the extremely important musical legacy for Romanian rock left by Nicu Covaci. “Walk in the light, Nicu Covaci! My dear friend, you left an extremely important musical legacy for Romanian rock!”, he wrote.
“Nicu Covaci left us. God rest his soul!”, Nicu Alifantis also posted.
An emotional and very suggestive message came from the members of the Holograf band: “When legends fade, people become immortal. Smooth journey Nicu Covaci!”
Tudor Chirilă was speechless and marked this sad moment with the lyrics of the famous song “May he be reborn.”
We remind you that this spring Nicu Covaci was diagnosed with a brain tumor, “expansive intracranial process” the doctors said, the operation being an emergency. The surgical intervention, led by the team of renowned neurosurgeon Horia Pleș, lasted approximately six hours, during which a brain tumor was removed.
