After declaring at the beginning of July that “Parliament will look somewhat the same after the elections”, the liberal Alexandru Muraru, president of PNL Iasi, came to the conclusion that the presence of his party in government depends on two important factors.

Alexandru Muraru told News.ro that the PNL should obtain a percentage of 22-25 percent in the parliamentary elections and the party’s candidate for the presidency should necessarily reach the second round, in order to be able to remain in government for another four years.
Despite the fact that the PNL is in a good position, having been at the helm of government for five years, which is a first in the last 34 years, party members must understand that a poor result in this year’s parliamentary and presidential elections could send PNL into opposition.
“The PNL is in a good situation. In the last five years, we have been continuously present at the government in various coalition formulas. This is the first time this has happened in 34 years. But it’s not something that can’t be interrupted. Our mayors, colleagues from the PNL and the active party must understand that the presence in the government is conditioned by several things. We need to obtain a score of 22-25 percent in the parliamentary elections, and secondly to have a candidate in the second round of the presidential elections, because the parliamentary elections will be between the two presidential rounds”, said Alexandru Muraru.
He states that the parties that will have candidates in the second presidential round receive a bonus in the parliamentary election and that “the 2.5 million votes obtained by the PNL in the June elections theoretically guarantee the presence of the liberal candidate in the second round”, although “we have a tradition in Romania that on the right, there are more candidates on the right than on the left, who would break the votes”.
As for the opponent that Niclae Ciucă will meet in the second round, Alexandru Muraru believes that it will be George Simion.
We remind you that at the beginning of July, the same Alexandru Muraru stated that “there is relatively little chance that there will be a governing formula after December 2024 other than the same one – PSD-PNL”.
