Cristian Tudor Popescu is asking the International Gymnastics Federation to investigate the case of Sabrina Voinea, stating that her mark on the floor should be reconsidered, given that the images show that she did not leave the floor mat.

Romania finished the artistic gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games without a medal. In the floor final, Sabrina Maneca Voinea finished in 5th place, and Ana Maria Bărbosu in 4th place. Ana Maria Bărbosu was temporarily awarded a bronze medal, but was demoted after a challenge to Jordan Chiles’ mark. Sabrina Voinea, with the same mark of 13.700, remained in 5th place after the trainers’ appeal.
Cristian Tudor Popescu believes that it would be correct for the International Gymnastics Federation to cancel the penalty applied to Sabrina Voinea.

The greatest proximity of Sabrina Voinea’s heels to the limit of the competition space is at the end of the first acrobatic diagonal. But even there it doesn’t seem to me that he would have gone out. It would be right for the International Gymnastics Federation to cancel his 0.1 penalty.”, wrote journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu on Facebook.
The journalist rejects Sabrina’s accusation that the judges would have used images from another contest to disqualify her.
“On the other hand, the reaction of Sabrina, who says that the judging team used an image from another contest to disqualify her, is “conspiracyist”, because it involves an act of injustice to her with the deliberate participation of the entire team of referees. Furthermore, such false evidence can be quickly dispelled: it is impossible for the visual elements of another contest to be identical to those of the Olympic ground in Paris!…
It would be fair, but also nice, for FIG to bring to light the truth in Sabrina’s case. How beautiful is the gesture of the American athletes, Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, silver and bronze in the floor event, to bow on the podium to the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, the gold winner after she managed to overcome a series of cruel injuries.
An American football star, Marlon Humphrey, declared himself “disgusted” by the gesture of his compatriots. The strong football player, with atrophied brain and heart muscles, considers this to be a “loser” attitude, a “slave” who accepts defeat and the superiority of the master opponent. Fair-play is for him a sign of weakness, if not stupidity.

Romania responded promptly to remedy the injustice suffered by Sabrina Voinea in the Olympic floor final. Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu will boycott the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games, and COSR, FRG and ANS requested and obtained a reanalysis of Sabrina Voinea’s case.
