Australian actress Cate Blanchett stated that she only received “free sandwiches”, but was not paid well for the role of the queen of the elves, Galadriel, in the movie franchise “The Lord of the Rings” (“The Lord of the Rings”), informs DPA, quoted by Agerpres.
Cate Blanchett, winner of two Oscars, was asked which film brought her the highest salary while participating in the game “Plead The Fifth” on the American TV talk show “Watch What Happens Live”.
When Andy Cohen, the host of that TV show, tried to guess and suggested “The Lord Of The Rings”, the Australian actress, surprised by the suggestion, replied: “You’re kidding? No, no one was paid anything to act in that movie“.
When Andy Cohen asked her if she received “a cut of the bottom line,” meaning a percentage of the project’s profits, Cate Blanchett, 55, said: “Not! This was happening a long time before all these practices, so nothing“.
“I wanted to work with the guy who made Braindead (Peter Jackson – ed.). I mean, I basically got free sandwiches and kept my ears, which is still saying something, they fed me. No, no one was paid anything“, added the Aussie star.
The actress made these revelations after stating that she would return to the role of Queen Galadriel in the upcoming spin-off derived from the franchise “Lord of the Rings” if asked, as he would gladly work “on any project with Andy Serkis”.
Cate Blanchett played the role of the powerful elven queen, Galadriel, in the famous trilogy directed by Peter Jackson and whose films were released between 2001 and 2003, and then reprized this role in the films of the trilogy “The Hobbit”. All these feature films were based on the fantasy world imagined by the writer JRR Tolkien.
“The Lord Of The Rings” grossed nearly $3 billion.
