Corvinul Hunedoara was defeated by the Kazakh team FC Astana with a score of 2-1 (0-1), on Thursday evening, at the Municipal Stadium in Sibiu, in the first leg of the third preliminary round of the Conference League in football, reports Agerpres.

The winner of the Romanian Cup played two different halves, the first very good, in which she managed to open the scoring through Antonio Manolache (37), and the second weak, being dominated by the Kazakhs, who scored through Ousmane Camara (62) and Geoffrey Charles ( 80).
The Brazilian Roger had the first chances of the match, but in the first situation he shot past the goalkeeper from outside the box (10), after which he sent a volley from 16 meters, in the direction of the goalkeeper (16). Corvinul opened the scoring through defender Antonio Manolache (37), with a header from Pîrvulescu’s cross. FC Astana could equalize right before the break, on the counterattack (45), but Charles did not reach Camara’s cross.

The Hunedorens performed well in the first minutes of the second half, but Lupu was inaccurate in two situations (47, 48), and Manolache sent over the goal (59).
FC Astana then played to their value and dominated the game, the first clear opportunity being missed by the Croatian Tomasov (54), whose header was denied by goalkeeper Lefter. In min. 62, Camara passed Pop and Lica and shot from the center of the box, restoring the tie. Charles missed two big chances, first Lefter rejected his header from 6 meters (70), then shot over the goal from the box (73), but finally signed the winning goal: he dribbled past Manolache and sent with effect to the long corner (80).
The match in the second leg will be played on August 15, at the Almaty Ortalik Stadium in Almaty, from 17:00, and the referee will be the Turkish Atilla Karaoglan. If he manages to reverse the result and qualify against Astana, Corvinul will play in the play-off with the Scots from St Mirren FC or the Norwegians from SK Brann Bergen.
