Marcel Ciolacu announced on Wednesday, August 14, that the total number of prizes awarded to medalists at the Olympic Games puts Romania in the top 5 worldwide. These millions of euros allocated as prizes are among the money spent most effectively by Romania in recent years, added Marcel Ciolacu.

“I want to congratulate once again all the Romanian performers at the Olympics, it is our best result in the last 16 years. The amount of prizes offered to the medalists puts our country in the top 5 world and it is natural to be so! This is the only way we can motivate other young athletes to aspire to great performance. These millions of euros allocated as prizes are among the money spent most effectively by Romania in recent years”, said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, at the beginning of the Government meeting.

At the same time, Ciolacu asked the Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, to review by the end of the month the measure of reducing the merit scholarship for students at the beginning of their sports career.

“I cannot agree with this decision, which would apply from September, because Romania wants the exact opposite: to convince as many children as possible to do sports! We want to take them away from other dangerous temptations through sports, we want to help them grow up healthy! We cannot do this if student athletes lose even the minimum amount of aid received from the state”emphasized the head of the Executive.
