Digi 24 aired a fragment of the show “In front of you”, which will appear on Saturday, September 14, in which Mircea Geoană said that, if he is elected president, he will not hesitate to call on Klaus Iohannis or Dacian Cioloș, “those who have a bit of external competence“. Asked by the moderators about Traian Băsescu, the politician claimed that this is not the case because he is “in a state of biological degradation“.
“Nu think he still wants public life. He’s at a time in his life where he wants to do something else. And it’s good that he’s doing something else because I don’t think he left the best memory“, Geoana also said.
Called by the moderator on Thursday evening, after the broadcast of the segment with Geoană, Traian Băsescu reacted harshly.
“I administered two beatings to him and I can understand his resentment, but the statements he makes in which he sees himself as already distributing missions to former dignitaries seem to me to put him in the position of preparing for the second one « Mihaela, my love». He sees himself as president and I think that is not the case“, the former president told Digi 24.
“As far as decay goes, I’m a 72 year old man, by no means do I have the health of a 30 year old“, Băsescu also said. The former head of state said that despite his health problems, he did not: “to reach such a degradation as to wish King Michael health”, referring to the blunder made by Geoana, on Wednesday evening, during the first interview as an official presidential candidate
When he was being interviewed on ProTV news, Mircea Geoană wished King Mihai, who died in 2017, health: “I return to what King Mihai said in 2011, when he turned 90, God bless him, I was also in the Senate when he gave his last speech. He had a very important speech and said: «The country needs just and skilled rulers». Today, Romania has neither righteous nor skilled leaders“, said Geoana.
He returned, after the end of the show, with a reaction saying that he made a “mistake of expression” which he regrets.
“I would like to tell him one thing very directly: I did not propose to be part of this campaign, but I also do not want to put myself in the position of beating him for the third time, this time without running“, said Băsescu, who, according to the Constitution, can no longer run for the presidential elections after the two mandates.
Băsescu defeated Geoana twice: the first time at the Capital City Hall, then at the presidency of Romania.
