The former PNL leader Theodor Stolojan, former prime minister, stated that the PNL will support President Klaus Iohannis, if he wants to run for the parliamentary elections, “even with enthusiasm”, but mentioned that, after finishing his mandates, the President of Romania he should no longer interfere in political battles.

Former prime minister and president of the PNL, Theodor Solojan, was asked, on Sunday, on Digi 24, about the PNL’s initiative to amend the legislation so that President Klaus Iohannis can run for the parliamentary elections.
“There are two arguments here. It’s not just about President Iohannis, it’s about all the presidents of Romania from now on. And the second argument is; The National Liberal Party justified this project by respecting a constitutional right, to have the right to run for office. We will see what will be the decision of President Iohannis. I said very clearly, he is welcome, of course, the National Liberal Party, if he wants, will support him even enthusiastically. From my personal point of view, if you were the president of Romania, which is the highest representative office in the Romanian state, the president of Romania is the face that represents Romania in all international relations, I would say that the president of Romania, after finishing his mandates, – he should get involved in these political battles that are going on in Romania”, explained the former PNL leader, writes news.ro.
Theordor Stolojan also gives advice to Klaus Iohannis, namely to become the flag of a cause, as other heads of state in the world have done.
“I was giving the example of Al Gore, who was at one time vice-president of the United States, who when he finished his term embraced this cause of the environment, he became a well-known figure”, Theodor Stolojan also said.
About the popularity of the current head of state, at the end of his two terms as president, Stolojan said: “Anyone after 10 years of mandate decreases. Remember President Ilescu, President Constantinescu, President Băsescu It is a natural process”.
