“Israel has 9 million or so inhabitants, i.e. half of Romania’s population, on an area of about 4 of our counties. And it has one of the strongest armies in the world (…) Romania also has a Iran. Bigger and just as aggressive – Russia. Plus its partners, Hungary and Austria.”wrote Cristian Tudor Popescu on his Facebook page.
He noted that “the new president of Romania should propose as his zero priority the establishment of a true Romanian army, as human resource and armament. Not like Ciucă’s army.”
“Just as wrong as the Tyrian attitude “We don’t need NATO” seems to me the self-reassurance “Let it go, because NATO defends us”. The armies of the West help you if you are able to help yourself”the journalist claimed.
As for Mircea Geoană, he wrote that he does not believe that a presidency of the former deputy secretary of NATO would automatically mean a security guarantee for Romania.
“Some might think that a Mircea Geoană president, after being NATO’s deputy secretary general, means a security guarantee for Romania. The undersigned, no.
I am not surprised by the connections with Kremlin people that one of his close associates, the liberal Rareș Mănescu, has. It’s an opportunity to remember some”the journalist also claimed on his Facebook page.
