Romanian sport is facing an extremely controversial situation, after the press came into possession of the sums with which certain people from the Rowing Federation were awarded after the Olympic Games in Paris. The truth here provided the picture of a growing scandal, with sums that defy logic and common sense.

Seeing how the story unfolds in the media, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced that on Thursday he will have a meeting with Elisabeta Lipă, the president of the National Sports Agency, to see exactly “TRUTH” on how to apply the rules for rewarding athletes and staff from the federations following the performances obtained at the Olympic Games in Paris.
According to Agerpres, Ciolacu was asked by journalists how it is possible that “an accountant and a general secretary” (no – from the rowing federation), as complained by the former Minister of Sports Eduard Novak, to receive “more money” than an athlete who has had hundreds of hours of training.
“Now, at the office, I invited Mrs. Lipa, let’s see the whole truth. Going beyond the news, let me inform you of everything, today, and I will answer you“, answered Marcel Ciolacu.
A change in the law in the field, according to him, could be an option. “It’s an option, let’s see though“, Ciolacu added.
“I understood that money was given to an accountant, to a doctor… for the whole batch. It’s normal for the team doctor, of the Olympic team, to have some additional benefits, it’s normal for all the gear to have some additional benefits. But my opinion is that it should be very clearly known from the beginning what these benefits are, so that we don’t have such situations again“, the prime minister also declared.
