“All the candidates for the parliamentary elections were asked to contribute, according to the law, to the campaign budget, to ensure the pre-campaign and the electoral campaign, because this is how the electoral system in Romania is designed, the candidates bear these expenses”said George Simion in a press conference, according to News.ro.
The President of the AUR declares that the money is transferred to the party’s account and reported to the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) in a transparent manner. And in 2020, the candidates incurred the same expenses, says the party leader.
Asked if those who resigned on Monday from the positions of deputy and senator were PSD or PNL infiltrators, Simion answers that: “I can tell you that we cut to the bone in the lists for the Parliament, to make sure that, once they get there, they will not return their weapons.”
Three resignations from AUR amid scandals
Two deputies and one senator from AUR resign on Monday, October 21, due to disagreements regarding the parliamentary lists, these being Ringo Dămureanu, Lilian Scripnic and senator Neagu Ionuţ.
The AUR deputy, Ringo Dămureanu was dissatisfied with the fact that the submission of the candidacy is conditional on a sum of money.
“What I revealed, the fact that 60,000 euros were requested for candidacy, for eligible seats, was very clearly seen as the past few days including the party’s accountant resigned. It doesn’t seem normal to me that people who are running for Parliament donate sums to the one who is running for the presidency, to ride in a helicopter something like Ceausescu”, declared the deputy.
Deputy Lilian Scripnic announced his resignation on Facebook, emphasizing in a post the effort made over time for the party.
“Dear members, dear Romanians, I want to inform you with regret that I have decided to resign from the AUR parliamentary group. During the four years of my mandate, I invested all my resources in the activity in the parliament, demonstrating seriousness and devotion to the party and George Simion”he said.
Senator Neagu Ionuţ declared in plenary that in March 2023 he submitted a request to George Simion, drawing his attention to irregularities in the party, according to News.ro.
