A mayor from Mehedinți is accused of supplementing his income by singing at private events, although the law prohibits him from doing so during his mandate. The mayor claims that his activity is legal, but the situation has raised controversies related to his public role.

Ionuț Tudorescu, the mayor of Baia de Aramă in Mehedinți County, is in the spotlight after he was caught singing at various private events, including weddings, baptisms and local celebrations. Although the mayor does not hide this activity, promoting it on social networks, the law forbids him to carry out other remunerated jobs during his mandate, except teaching ones, according to Digi 24.
“I have been to a lot of shows, where the audience demanded that I be present. (…) All are through bank accounts, mine, yes, sure”said the mayor, confirming that his artistic activity is paid.
According to the law, an incumbent mayor does not have the right to receive money from other sources, except in the case of a teacher.

Recently, the mayor also held a show in Motru, a municipality led by a party colleague. When asked by journalists, the local mayor did not know how much Ionuț Tudorescu’s allowance was paid.
“Not me, so the mayor’s office didn’t do it, we had an organizer. I know he’s been doing this for a long time, but I don’t know how he does it and what he does. I don’t know, what contract he has, how he has it, I don’t know. I don’t know how he has free time. I don’t think anyone gave him money for nothing, they probably gave him money for the performance he does, more or less. And mayors are people, and mayors have families, and mayors want to do something in their lives, not just sit on the streets and do projects”is the opinion of Cosmin Morega, the mayor of Motru municipality.
The mayor’s passion for music is also known among the locals. “She does one more song, because there is no money to support the family”says a man. “Yes, yes, sing more, sing more. What to do? That’s the job“, says another man from the commune.
Ionuț Tudorescu’s monthly salary received from the mayor’s office is 11 thousand lei, according to the wealth declaration.
