Residency 2024. Exam calendar, rules and organization

The 2024 Residency Exam will be held on Sunday, November 17, starting at 10:00 a.m. The exam lasts 4 hours and candidates have to answer a grid of 200 questions.

The residency competition is the way to enter the residency, the form of postgraduate education, lasting between 3 and 7 years depending on the specialization, for graduates of the undergraduate cycle from the faculties of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.

Residency 2024. Exam calendar

  • On November 14th, the universities organizing the competition will publish the final list of the distribution of candidates by hall. Candidates will be able to check the room in which they have been assigned, as well as the start time of the test by visiting the websites of the universities or the official website of the competition, rezidentiat.ms.ro. Also on this day, the list of candidates assigned to that hall is displayed at each hall.
  • On November 15, the organizers prepare and seal the bags containing the non-secret materials required for the competition, including the answer sheets, black cards, bank IDs and all administrative documents. The universities ensure the final verification of the conditions in the rooms: the existence of hygiene and protection materials, the proper ventilation of the spaces and the clear signage of the entrances and exits are confirmed.
  • On November 16, at 10:00 a.m., the notebooks with the competition questions are sent in secure electronic format to the local commissions in each university center. These notebooks are multiplied in secure premises, and the personnel involved do not leave the location until the activity is completed. The question books are sealed and packed in bags which are then sealed under the responsibility of the central board and local residency boards. Each bag is marked with the necessary information, including the university centre, hall and number of candidates, and is ready for transport on the day of the competition.

Residency 2024. How the competition will be conducted

Access to the competition halls is allowed from 8:30 a.m. and each candidate must present a valid identity document, such as an identity card, passport or residence permit. Each candidate’s serial number will be displayed on the bench, and they will occupy the seats according to the previously displayed lists.

At 9:00 a.m., candidates will receive an answer grid and a black card to fill in the answers. According to the regulations, the carioca is mandatory to ensure the grids are legible and will be provided by the organizers. The sealed bags with the competition notebooks will be brought to the examination halls at around 9:30 am and unsealed in the presence of the head of the hall and three candidates.

At 10:00 a.m., simultaneously in all university centers, the distribution of question booklets begins, and the duration of the exam is four hours”, starting from the moment when the last notebook was distributed.

What rules must candidates follow?

Candidates are not allowed to use electronic devices, communicate with other participants, consult written materials or copy. Candidates must also have their ears visible, and those wearing hearing aids are required to remove them to prevent suspicion of transmitting information by radio reception, the regulation states. Candidates who disturb the peace in the competition hall or do not respect the rules will receive a warning, and in case of recurrence they will be eliminated.

At the end of the four hours, all candidates must stop completing the answer grid; any delay will result in penalties, including removal from the contest. The answer sheets will be handed over to the head of the hall under the signature, and the question books remain in the possession of the candidates, except for those who withdraw from the competition within the first three hours. This session saw 10,575 candidates contesting for 4,961 seats and 237 posts, giving an average of 2.13 candidates for each seat and a contest of 44 candidates for each post.

Contest promotion rules

The choice of a place or position is conditional on obtaining a minimum passing score of 60% of the maximum score (at least 120 questions with correct answers), the methodology for organizing the residency entrance competition provides. The filling of the available places and positions will take place in the order of the points obtained, according to a unique national classification. The 2024 Residency Competition is organized simultaneously in the university centers of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Iași, Târgu Mureș and Timișoara.
