“You’re gone, Gabi, and you’ve left Romanian pop music without one of the biggest and most personal voices! We were not only collaborators but also friends from our youth! We released songs together that have delighted generations of listeners («blue night”, «Please, miss, don’t go», «And another night will pass», «Life is a casino», «Voice from above», «Sometimes-El amor», «Let’s not say goodbye», «Maybe yes, maybe not» etc)!. Together with Joey de Alvaré, we launched the first CD in Romania! We did beautiful things together, things that cannot be forgotten! We have shared many moments of our life and career together!…We will always keep you in our hearts! May God rest you in peace and light!, wrote, on Facebpok, the composer and conductor Ionel Tudor.
Ionel Tudor paid tribute to Gabriel Cotabiță and spoke, on Saturday, about the poor health of the singer.
In an intervention on Antena 3 CNN, the composer told about the artist:
“A week – 10 days ago (Gabriel Cotabiță) had a massive vascular accident on the left side, he was intubated, he struggled a lot”.
“He told me: ‘my friend’ and then fell asleep”
And the composer Horia Moculescu spoke about the suffering of the artist and the pain left behind.
“On the 11th he suffered a stroke. I spoke to him after the stroke. (…) When he was hospitalized in Floreasca, only I was allowed to go. We had a kind of password with each other, when I visited him in the hospital, I told him, he opened his eyes, said: “my friend” and then fell asleep. I talked to him about the lack of fear in the face of death“, Horia Moculescu testified, also on CNN’s Antena 3.
“Your music will live on in our hearts”
Social networks were filled with messages of condolences. Politicians are among those who reacted to the tragic news.
“Today he left us Gabriel Cotabita, a sensational voice and one of the most beloved Romanian artists. His music delighted our youth and this is his legacy to the present generations. May God rest him up there among the angels!” wrote Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Facebook.
“Gabriel Cotabita he was a great artist. His departure leaves us without one of Romania’s warmest and most beloved voices.(…) My thoughts are with his family and all those who loved him. Gabriel, we will miss you tremendously, but your music will live on in our hearts. May God rest in peace!”, wrote the president of the Senate, Nicolae Ciucă, on Facebook.
