The greatest gymnast in the history of Romania, Dan Grecu, passed away yesterday, at the age of 74. The former athlete, coach, referee and head of the federation will be buried on Saturday, in Brașov.

The Romanian Gymnastics Federation has provided some details for those who want to say goodbye to the one who was Dan Grecu. “Those who wish to pay their last respects to the MAN Dan Grecu, can do so starting this afternoon at the Chapel of the Municipal Cemetery in Braşov. The funeral service, with military honors, will take place on Saturday, December 14, at 1 pm at the church of the Municipal Cemetery in Braşov. Dan Grecu (b. September 26, 1950, Bucharest, Romania – d. December 12, 2024) was a gymnast specialized in rings, world and European champion and bronze medalist at the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics. Due to his developments and recorded results was named “The Lord of the Rings”. After retiring from the activity, he became the coordinating coach of the men’s Olympic gymnastics team, vice-president of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and international gymnastics referee.
