“Yes, Nicușor Dan president! An exceptionally good announcement for Romania tonight. We have a candidate, we have something to vote for! It is exactly 10 days since, during his lordship’s visit to Cluj, to receive the ICDE-Romania European 2024 Award, I proposed to Mr. Nicușor Dan to run for the Presidency of Romania!”, wrote on Facebook, Valentin Naumescu, professor of international relations at the Faculty of European Studies of “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca (UBB)
The former secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (between 2005 and 2007) and consul general of Romania in Toronto between 2008 and 2012, says that he made this proposal to Nicușor Dan “two hours after the CCR announced the invalidation of the presidential elections”.
“The next day, on December 7, the European Romania Coalition (made up of over 30 signatories, civic associations and people from different fields) was formed spontaneously, also in Cluj, which took up the idea and gave public support for this candidacy”the renowned teacher also explained.
“He is serious, integrity and credible. It can coagulate centrist political options”
Valentin Naumescu, who is also the president of the think-tank Initiative for European Democratic Culture (ICDE) and director of the Center for the Study of EU External Relations and Global Order (EUXGLOB Center, UBB), explained why the European Romania Coalition supports Nicusor Dan:
“Why we support Nicușor Dan for the position of President of Romania?
– Because he is serious, honest and credible
– Because it is not a product of political parties (not “the party was made by man”, as the people say)
– Because everything he achieved in life he did through his mind and powers
– Because he liked school, books, learning (gold medal at the International Mathematics Olympiad in 1987 and 1988, postgraduate studies and doctorate in France, at the Sorbonne)
– because he won the elections twice, as an independent, in Bucharest (2020 and 2024), even against the big parties
– Because he is modest, calm, rational
– Because he has common sense
–Because he knows how to communicate simply and naturally with voters of all types
– Because it has a European, pro-Western, democratic vision, which we fully support
– Because he is competent in the public exercise
– Because it can coagulate centrist political options.
–Because Romania and the Romanians would be proud to have such a President”.
