Cristian Pîrvulescu, after Ciolacu’s announcement: “This means that PSD will have a presidential candidate”

Political analyst Cristian Pîrvulescu draws some conclusions after the PSD decided to withdraw from the coalition. According to him, the decision only led to a deepening of the political crisis.

“This means that PSD will have a presidential candidate.

Two – opt for a service government.

Three – it pushes the entire responsibility onto the shoulders of Iohannis and the PNL, this party being obliged, in one way or another, to make a common front with Iohannis, even if it does not want to support Iohannis, under the conditions in which we know USR ultimatum.

The consequences are a deepening of the crisis, again PNL he will have the full responsibility of the next months of government, which will cost him enormously“, Professor Cristian Pîrvulescu declared for AGERPRES on Thursday.

However, the political analyst does not believe that Marcel Ciolacu will necessarily be the candidate from the PSD side in the presidential elections, “but, depending on the developments, this may also happen”.

It is obvious that the PSD option is one for a transitional government, until after the presidential elections. These will give a more accurate description of the political field in Romania and, on this basis, the new president, whoever he will be, will be able to establish a governing formula that will be much stronger, not be the result of a situation that, anyway, USR used it electorally. So, the PSD reacts by using the electorate and extracting itself“, he explained.

Pîrvulescu also emphasized that PSD’s withdrawal is not the worst thing, because a government of social democrats from the opposition means a strong opposition.

Cristian Pîrvulescu pointed out that, “from the point of view of democracy, it is not the worst thing that is happening now”. “Because the PSD in the opposition means a strong opposition, the government is weak, it is very true and, on the other hand, the PSD says: ‘good, at the end of the mandate, the supplement he still has, Iohannis and PNL to bear all the consequences , because, after all, they are the ones who initiated this process. Complicated. For PNL it is very complicated“, emphasized professor Cristian Pîrvulescu.
