The history of communism in Romania will be compulsory for 12th grade students, starting next school year. The change also comes in the context in which, in the first round of the presidential elections, young people voted for a candidate with a neo-legionary, pro-Russian, xenophobic and anti-Semitic speech. “Inadequate knowledge or even the lack of knowledge of historical facts from the period of the communist regime leaves room for distortions that can influence social behavior and, as we have seen, electoral behavior”said Ligia Deca. The history of Communism in Romania was integrated into the curriculum area “Man and Society”, along with History, History of the Jews. The Holocaust, Geography, Sociohumans and Religion.
