Asked what he did for the last ten years, Crin Antonescu explained that he was unemployed for most of the period.
“I have not been employed in these last eight years, I have lived financially from my wife’s income and my rather meager savings. I don’t remember asking anyone for any leu, I didn’t request any leu or euro from the Romanian state or any institutions and I think it’s my option that I have no reason to be afraid of“, he said for Antena 3.
On how he will convince the voters to vote, he said that he will address the whole people, even if he identifies himself as a liberal and a man of the right.
“I am not thinking of a campaign for those from PSD or for those from PNL or for those from UDMR. I am thinking of a campaign by someone who will say what he thinks the president of Romania must do and he believes he can really do to all Romanian citizens. I will address everyone with a message that I hope as many people as possible will choose. The fact that I am a liberal, and if I consider it normal to resign from the PNL, I will remain a liberal and a man of the right. I don’t think that in the position of president of Romania, any of my liberal beliefs make me uninteresting for a social democratic voter“, Antonescu also declared.
At the beginning of the intervention, the former PNL president stated that he did not expect to re-enter politics, but the current situation led him to take this decision.
“It seems to me that I have to take this step or I have no choice. It’s a choice of conscience. I didn’t think I would ever return to politics, because I didn’t think something so dramatic would happen in Romania that I would be needed. I didn’t want this, I’m sorry it happened, I would have been happy to be able to recommend another solution, I had to agree with my colleagues who made this proposal to me, that we have to try, we can’t we give back“, said the presidential candidate.
