FIFA published the last ranking for 2024. Romania climbed 5 positions compared to the beginning of the year, jumping from 43rd to 38th.

The honorable performance at Euro 2024, under the command of Edi Iordănescu, then the perfect course in the League of Nations, with Mircea Lucescu as coach, brought the national team a good place in the FIFA ranking. If in 2023 the tricolors started the year on 52 and finished on 43, the ascent continued this year as well.
At the end of 2024, Romania is in 38th place, with 1494.2 points, ahead of teams like Greece, the Czech Republic, Norway or Slovakia. And from the European nations, the yellow national team is in position 20. Surprisingly, before us is Russia (34th place), which has not been accepted to play in competitions for almost 2 years.
In the FIFA ranking, the opponents with whom Romania will fight for qualification to the WC 2026 occupy the following positions, at the end of the year: Austria – 22nd place, Bosnia – Herzegovina -74, Cyprus – 130 and San Marino – 210. The first positions are Argentina, France and Spain.
