The former Sporting Lisbon and Villarreal defender also went to prison in 2018 for threats and armed robbery. Also, in 2021, the Lusitanian was investigated for an alleged rape committed on a minor, but he was acquitted.
Now, it was the life partner who handed him over to the Police. Ruben Semedo was arrested yesterday in Lisbon on charges of domestic violence.
For the Portuguese footballer, this is another legal problem in recent years, the third arrest after those in 2018 (for kidnapping, threats and robbery with the use of firearms) and in 2021 (for allegations of sexual assault).
In the first case he spent several months in prison (“I cried many times, never in front of others,” he said of that experience), then signing with Olympiakos Athens. In Greece, he was accused of rape by a 17-year-old girl, then acquitted for lack of evidence.
This time, according to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, it was his girlfriend who reported him: after escaping from the house where she was allegedly attacked and kidnapped, the 30-year-old presented herself to the Police with injuries from the alleged assault .
Semedo was due to return to Qatar today but will appear at the Amadora court to be heard by a judge.
