Teachers will have more days off this year. How long will the teachers stay at home?

The government decided that May 2, 2025, which falls on a Friday, should be free for budget workers. Thus, a bridge is made between the day off on Thursday, May 1, and the weekend. Automatically, both teachers and students will stay at home, and the number of free days they benefit from per year will increase from 20 to 21.

In the 2024-2025 school year, 21 days off are provided for both teachers and other Education employees. These days include public holidays, the same as for all state employees, but also other rest periods provided for in the Collective Labor Agreement at the education level.

According to the updated calendar, of the 21 free days, 16 fall during vacations and also on weekends. Practically, this year the teachers will have only 5 days off during the week. The new “bridge” announced by the Government in May will send students and teachers on a short 4-day vacation, right in the first week of Learning Module 5 and right after the Easter vacation.

The 2024-2025 school year began on September 1, 2024 and has a duration of 36 weeks of classes. Classes started on September 9, 2024.
