The Ciolacu 2 government appointed a controversial figure as head of ANS

Constantin-Bogdan Matei (44 years old), former PSD parliamentarian, was appointed president, with the rank of state secretary, of the National Sports Agency, the Ciolacu 2 Government decided, which published the decision on Monday evening in the Official Gazette.

Matei takes the place of Thomas-Răzvan Moldovan (48 years old), left interim president of ANS after Elisabeta Lipă vacated the post.

Constantin-Bogdan Matei, who held the position of Minister of Sport between November 20, 2018 and November 4, 2019, during the mandate of Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă.

Corrigent upon tenure

Matei has a past with many controversies. Substitute for Physical Education, he got a grade of 2.75 in the first year, in 2006. At that time he was 25 years old. A year later he received 5.25 and managed to pass the grade only in 2012, a year after he joined the PSD.

Constantin-Bogdan Matei claims that he played football at Sibiu University in the early 2000s, in the third division.

At the beginning of his parliamentary term, Matei was the author of a hilarious blunder. He fell into the net spread by journalists. The social democrat believed that Hammurabi’s Code, i.e. a series of laws from 3,700 years ago, would be voted on by the elected officials!
