Madison Keys tried her best to stop Aryna Sabalenka in the Belarusian’s bid for a third consecutive Australian Open title. After an intense match, the tennis player from the USA managed to win her first career Grand Slam, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

The American started like a gun and did not give her opponent any chance in the first set. After a break in the beginning of the game, the 14th player of the world continued to distance herself and won 6-3, ending the set with a game won on the service of the world number 1. Aryna Sabalenka balanced the dispute in the second part of the match, winning clearly, 6-2.

The Australian Open girls final went into a decider where each player won on her own serve to go head to head at 5-5. Madison Keys held her nerve and put another game in front of her, making it 6-5, after which she made the final assault. He got two match balls, lost the first one, but didn’t miss the second one and prevailed after two hours of play.

Madison Keys will climb to the 7th WTA rank

The winner was chosen with a check for 3,500,000 Australian dollars (2,100,000 euros), while the loser had to settle for “only” 1,100,000 euros. From Monday, Madison Keys will climb to the 7th place in the WTA ranking, after gaining 2,000 points. Aryna Sabalenka remains in the lead, but Iga Swatek is chasing her, with less than 200 points between the two.
