The updates, iOS 18.3, iPados 18.3 and Macos Sequoia 15.3, also deactivate the function of AI summates for news applications, which have been criticized for the wrong interpretation of notifications and displaying inaccurate information, writes news.ro.

This launch represents an important moment for Apple Intelligence, the suite of functions based on artificial intelligence of the company.

Apple Intelligence is essential for Apple’s strategy to differentiate its products from those of competitors through a system you have integrated into iPhone and other devices.

Although Apple Intelligence has been promoted in marketing campaigns for the latest iPhones, its launch has been gradually and limited so far. The company states that this approach aims to test the new functions and to ensure the capacity of the necessary servers.

The Apple Intelligence suite remains officially in the beta version and is only available in a few English -speaking countries.

By automatically activating Apple Intelligence in the latest software update, Apple takes an important step towards a complete launch.

In the past, users with compatible devices – models launched in 2024 and “Pro” variants of 2023 – had to activate Apple Intelligence manually, a process that involves downloading the AI models from the Internet.

Now, with the IOS 18.3 update, Apple Intelligence will be activated by default during the device configuration, which will extend the number of users exposed to this functionality. The system is promoted as being able to rewrite texts, generate images and summarize long emails or conversations.

“For users who install or update to iOS 18.3, Apple Intelligence will be activated automatically during the device configuration,” Apple said in developer launch notes. Users will be able to disable this feature by accessing the Apple Intelligence page in the Configuration application.

Also, the update includes the first significant withdrawal of a function by Apple, after it has generated controversial and unsatisfactory results. Apple thus joins companies such as Google and Microsoft, who have had to adjust the functions of AI due to harmful content or “hallucinations” generated by the system.

The notification summary function you could simplify the notifications in a short text. However, the BBC and other media institutions have discovered in December that this function can distort the news titles. For example, earlier this month, the Apple system confused notifications in the BBC sports application, stating that “Brazilian tennis Rafael Nadal was declared gay.” Nadal is actually Spanish and married to Maria Francisca Perello.

To avoid such errors, the update disables the Apple Intelligence function for news and entertainment applications. In addition, the notifications generated by AI will be displayed in Italic, to distinguish the content generated by the artificial intelligence from the one provided directly by applications.

“We are pleased that Apple has listened to our concerns and suspended the function of summons for news,“Said a BBC spokesman for CNBC.

Apple has confirmed that the function of notifications summarized for news applications will return to a future update.
