UEFA communicated the completion of the procedure for checking the eligibility of the candidates for the mandates within the Council, confirming that exactly four candidates were registered for the four available places. Therefore, Răzvan Burleanu will continue his activity in this position for another four years.

By my presence in the FIFA Council I wish Romania to be involved in the process of decision making in international football. Our goals remain the defense of the European model of sport, strengthening the collaboration with non-European federations and supporting a common vision for the development of football along with the president of UEFA. It is a unique opportunity for Romania and an important victory for Romanian football, considering that from 1923 to 2021 no Romanian was present in the FIFA leadership. At the same time, it is an advantage for Europe, managing to maintain continuity in a context full of challenges. I also want to thank everyone who believed in my vision and my colleagues in the FRF team both internally and internationally”, Said Răzvan Burleanu.

The new mandates, for the period 2025-2029, will be validated on April 3, during the 49th UEFA Congress in Belgrade (Serbia). Of the five places available in the FIFA Council, one is reserved for a female representative.

For the other four positions, the current members of Răzvan Burleanu (Romania), Georgios Koum (Cyprus), Bernd Neuendorf (Germany) and Dejan Savicevic (Montenegro) have been applied.

Regarding the place reserved for the female representative, Pascale Van Damme in Belgium will replace Evelina Christillin in Italy. The EUFA is represented in the FIFA Council of nine members, one of which is the president of UEFA, the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferă, a law member.

According to FIFA regulations, one place must be allocated to a representative from the British space, and another to a woman. The other UEFA representatives are: Sandor Csanyi (Hungary), Debbie Hewitt (England), Fernando Gomes (Portugal), Bernd Neuendorf (Germany), Georgios Koumas (Cyprus), Dejan Savicevic (Montenegro), Răzvan Burleanu (Romania) and Pascal Van Damme (Belgium).

Răzvan Burleanu was first elected in the FIFA Council in April 2021, being the first Romanian to hold such a position from FRF affiliation to FIFA. UEFA Executive Committee.
