Organizing a wedding involves a lot of planning, and establishing the right date is one of the most important aspects. According to the Orthodox calendar, there are certain days and periods of the year in which religious weddings are not allowed. When not to organize your event?
No weddings are officiated in the following periods of 2025, according to church ordinances:
– Post periods and important holiday days
– all fasting days of the year including Wednesday and Friday
– The Post of the Holy Easter: March 3 – May 4, 2025
– Luminated Week (after Easter): 5 – 11 May 2025
– the post of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul: June 23 – 28, 2025
– The post of the Assumption of the Virgin: 1 – 14 August 2025
– Christmas Post: November 14 – December 24, 2025
– Eve, day and second Easter: April 19 – 21, 2025
– The eve, the day and the second day of Pentecost: 7 – 9 June 2025
– Ascension of the Holy Cross: September 14, 2025
– The eve, the day and the second day of Christmas: December 24 – 26, 2025
Why are these restrictions?
The Orthodox Church considers that periods of fasting are moments of prayer, purification and closeness to God. Believers are urged to give up fun and parties. Because the wedding is an event of joy and celebration, it is not compatible with the spirit of silence of these days.
Also, the great religious holidays, such as Easter and Christmas, are dedicated exclusively to the glorification of God. Organizing a wedding these days could diminish the deep significance of the holiday.
Other periods to be avoided
In addition to church restrictions, there are other times when organizing a wedding is not ideal:
– The working days during the week – although not forbidden, many couples avoid Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, to facilitate the participation of guests.
– The months with unstable weather – if you want an outdoor wedding, it would be good to avoid March, April and November, because the weather conditions can be changing.
Choosing the right moment for the wedding contributes to the success of the event. Taking into account the data in which the weddings are not made in 2025 and avoiding the less favorable periods, you will be able to organize a successful wedding.
