The number of influenza cases increases from one week to another, the figures in the last days causing the Ministry of Health to establish the epidemiological alert. In many hospitals the visit program has been restricted, additional prevention measures have been imposed, patients to be admitted are first tested, launch on all ways to the population to comply with the minimum hygiene rules, but the number of illnesses continue to increase.
Doctors estimate that the influenza season will give them a fork for another month – a month and a half. 22 patients died all over the country, kidnapped by the flu, and cases that require hospitalization are constantly increasing.
At this point, the infectious doctor Oana Obretin, the head of the Infectious Diseases section of the Slatina County Emergency Hospital, said, because too few patients are vaccinated. All those who needed medical services in hospitalization, at the Slatina Hospital, are unvaccinated. There is a worrying that there is almost no guard in which future moms are not consulted, and these are also unvaccinated, although the specialists recommend the flu vaccination of the pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy. Infectious specialists in Slatina also treated patients only a few weeks old.
“Since the wave started, there has been no vaccinated patient. Neither adults nor children. (…) It’s a fear. People do not understand that, yes, you can make the flu with another stem, but you have no complications and do not put you in bed. And the children refuse to vaccinate. . It is not a guard not to see pregnant women in gynecology or UPU, with flu. He does not wear a mask, he does not respect the minimum hygiene rules ”, explains Dr. Obretin what the doctors in hospitals face.
“The flu can seriously complicate a cardiac pathology”
If for a patient with a good immunity the influenza episode, although very annoying, finally ends for those who suffer and other diseases the complications can be extreme. All four patients who died in Olt County, this influenza season, had other conditions. They were all also unvaccinated.
Already doctors are put in a situation to tria “blood” cases, because the available places deal extremely quickly. Patients are admitted to which the flu is complicated by pneumonia or other complications occur. Otherwise, patients are radiologically investigated in emergencies, they are performed a set of analyzes and receive the recipe and the recommendation to return to the hospital if in 24-72 hours they do not feel better.
However, the warning is very clear: the flu can be complicated in the case of patients suffering from chronic diseases (and who benefit from free vaccination, only that most choose not to get vaccinated).
How much can a flu can complicate? “It goes to pneumonia, bronchopneumonia and respiratory failure. But the flu can complicate a very serious cardiac pathology. That’s what I saw, very much complicated the cardiac part. Patients who knew about heart problems have taken the flu and began fibrillations, severe heart failure, pulmonary overhemia, up to pulmonary thromboembolism (TEP). Those who have been vaccinated do not reach the hospital, do not arrive, pass over a respiratory virus. (…) Many say they have comorbidities and for this reason they have not been vaccinated, for fear. Information is a problem ”adds the doctor.
“The child would have some immunity, at least two to three months”
Family doctor Viorel Dumitrescu says that, in the last five years, he has had no refusal from the parents of the young children he has in the list of patients to vaccinate with vaccines in the national immunization calendar, instead it does not happen in case the flu vaccine. Even the future moms failed to convince them to accept the flu vaccine in the last trimester of pregnancy, even if they are presented.
“Things would change a lot. They do not want to be vaccinated, we have proposed, (…) but they prefer not to be vaccinated. My opinion is that it would be a very big gain, because much of the antibodies they get through vaccination would pass through the fetal blood and the child would have some immunity, at least two to three months. Indeed, we were scared, because lately they have appeared cases in very young children. And then it would be preferable for mothers to be vaccinated during pregnancy, in the last trimester of pregnancy ”, says the doctor.
There is a real anti-vaccine current, notes the doctor. “Very difficult you do the youth to get vaccinated, for the flu in particular. We are more successful now in young moms, and even the boys have started to come for the anti-HPV vaccine. It’s a gain ”said Dr. Dumitrescu.
