Artificial intelligence improves breast cancer detection by almost 30%. Study conducted on nearly 106,000 women

A recent study shows that mammograms analyzed with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) have identified with 29% more cases of breast cancer compared to traditional methods. You have also detected several invasive forms of the disease at an early stage.

The research, conducted by specialists from Lund University of Sweden and published in Digital Health lancet, analyzed almost 106,000 women.

Of these, half were subjected to traditional screening, and the other half of the mammography assisted by AI. The results show that artificial intelligence identified cancer in 338 patients, compared to the conventional method. In addition, artificial intelligence has detected 24% more invasive cancers in an incipient phase.

In addition to the increased accuracy, AI -based technology has also reduced the volume of work of radiologists by 44%. The next stage of the study will analyze cancer cases that are not detected by traditional screening, and the results will be published next year.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in Romania, but if it is detected and treated in time, the chances of healing are high.

According to Globocan 2020 estimates, this disease is the main form of cancer in women and the third cause of oncological death, after lung and colorectal cancer. However, early diagnosis by accessible methods, such as mammography or breast ultrasound, can make the difference in the success of the treatment.
