On Wednesday, at the meeting of the General Assembly of the Romanian Academy to the well -known Romanian writer Mircea Cărtărescu he was missing a safe vote to be admitted as a corresponding member of this pre -institution.

“Unfortunately, he fell to the vote of the General Assembly, today, at a distance from a vote. He had to take 74 votes to have two thirds of the number of voters and obtained only 73. It is a great opinion for us, because he was supported with a lot of section, but … “, said prof. Dr. Rodica Zafiu, head of the Academy’s Philology Section, quoted by Edrudu.ro.

Prof. univ. Dr. Rodica Zafiu explained the procedure for a candidate to obtain a corresponding membership of the Romanian Academy. Thus, each section proposes their own candidates, and in the general meeting they must obtain at least two thirds of votes to be accepted.

A month ago, the candidacy of the writer Mircea Cărtărescu was voted by the members of the philology section of the Academy unanimously. “He was voted in the unanimity of those present, with 9 votes out of 9”, According to prof. Univ. Dr. Rodica Zafiu.

However, the writer “dropped” at only one vote away in the general meeting of the Academy.

Two years ago, the candidacy of Mircea Cărtărescu was blocked right in the initial phase, that is, it did not pass the vote of the philology section, Rodica Zafiu, interim president of the philology section, declaring that the situation has been reflected at that time wrong in the press and emphasizing that the vote in the section has only been held now and was unanimous in favor of the writer’s nomination.

She also expressed her regret that Mircea Cărtărescu was not admitted as a corresponding member of the Academy, specifying that he deserved this quality, as a recognition of his value.

“It is a shame, because we were very close to we do a correct act, to reward value, which is very obvious. But this is happening, ”said prof. Univ. Dr. Rodica Zafiu.
