In a recent interview, Minister Daniel David explained that he works on two big and pressing projects, the framework plans for the high school and the performance indicators for the teacher’s income.

“I want to approach things seriously, in order not to make reforms for the sake of reforms and after the mold or idiosyncratic desires, justified by the limited understandings or personal experiences that the minister has in terms of the system. Therefore, as I said, I will start with a diagnosis based on psychoeducational and political sciences, which will then support evidence-based proposals, which can remain as a system commitment that no serious minister can refuse, regardless of the political color. I will make this diagnosis until May. (…) In addition, we will adopt a series of subsequent acts to the organic laws, to facilitate this functioning, and more concretely I will hire two big and pressing projects, namely the framework plans for the high school and the performance indicators for the teachers’ income ” , Minister Daniel David said for the Education Tribune.

“We need to think a series of performance indicators”

The minister stressed that teachers’ salaries must have a number of minimum performance standards, which, if not met, will attract some consequences.

“The salary must be a decent one – Ex. convergent through the school years with the one in the field of health – to show the role we give to education/teacher in society and to attract and keep the best graduates in the system. However, the salary must have a number of minimum performance standards, which, if not met, will attract some consequences. Beyond the salary, we must think a series of performance indicators – meritocracy and inclusion – to differentiate the income of the teachers“Said Daniel David.

Also, the Minister of Education also claimed that the textbooks must be structured so as to support the efficient transfer of skills, not just some components.

“Informal said, textbooks that students read with pleasure, not need, sometimes before the moment when a certain lesson is done. From a psychoeducational point of view, the textbooks must be structured so as to support the efficient transfer of skills, not only of some components of them, expressed and more operational in learning results ”said for the quoted source, minister Daniel David.
