The Carnival of Venice 2025 made its debut, celebrating three centuries since the birth of the legendary Giacomo Casanova.
The event (See photo and video)held between February 16 and March 4, was inaugurated with a spectacular boats parade on the Grand Canal, driven by a huge inflatable rat. The official moment of the opening was marked by an explosion of biodegradable confetti, giving the spectators an impressive scene that perfectly captured the charm, mystery and seduction-just as Casanova himself.
In order to manage the large flow of visitors, the authorities have implemented a one -way traffic system on certain streets, facilitating a more fluent displacement through the Venetian labyrinth. In a vibrant atmosphere, the costume participants sailed through the channels to the Rialto Bridge, under the enthusiastic eyes of the spectators. The parade perfectly surprised the essence of the creativity, magic and Venetian tradition, offering an unforgettable show.
Year by year, the Venice Carnival attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world, eager to admire the lavish parades and to lose on the picturesque streets, animated by participants in elaborate costumes and refined masks. San Marco Square and the historical alleys of the city remain among the most popular places for photos.

300 years since the birth of Casanova, celebrated in a grand style
The 2025 edition of the Venice Carnival pays homage to Giacomo Casanova, the famous Venetian seducer and symbol of freedom and passion, three centuries after its birth. On Sunday, February 16, the streets and channels of Venice came to life with spectacular parades, sumptuous costumes and refined masks, in a tribute to the Eighteenth century atmosphere, under the topic “In the time of Casanova”.
Symbol of the Venetian culture, this year’s carnival has celebrated Casanova’s fascinating legacy, always associated with adventure, seduction and mystery. The theme invited the participants to make an incursion in the past, in a Venice full of intrigue and love stories, exactly as he lived.

The magic of the masks at the Venice Carnival: between freedom, equality and charm of anonymity
The Venice carnival has its roots in the Middle Ages, its tradition dating from 1162, when the city celebrated a great victory. Over the centuries, the carnival has become an event in which the social differences disappeared, due to the famous Venetian masks, which offered anonymity and full freedom. Basically it was the medieval version of the expression: “What happens in Venice, stays in Venice.”
After a long forgetfulness, the carnival was revived in 1979, becoming a symbol of the city and an important engine for tourism. Since then, every year, Venice turns into the favorite destination of thousands of masked parties from all over the world.
In 2025, hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to participate in the festivities that will transform the city into a fascinating color, elegance and mystery show. The streets and channels will become the decoration of spectacular costumes and delightful traditions, until March 4, when the carnival will end with Wednesday – the first day of Easter Lent in the Western Christian Tradition (Catholic and Protestant).
