The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, spoke on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, about the high level of functional illiteracy in various fields, saying that many of the adults who have graduated high school have a worrying skills.
“I look to enter the area of the Children’s High School, and I know as a psychologist, with a level of creativity and intelligence comparable to what we see in the western spaces, but on too many we put them in a form and a profile that would not be We have to like it. The truth is that the level of functional illiteracy in various fields, the skills we see in the case of adults who have finished the high school area look very, very bad (…) at this moment, how the competences of adults are expressed in Romania. Functional illiteracy is non -tolerated for a country, especially for a country that has other ambitions in education ”said Minister Daniel David, quoted by Agerpres.
According to the quoted source, a minister must “to be responsible for how education is done in a country, or it likes it or not ”. The minister also reiterated that a collective effort to rethink the framework plans should be made as this reform had to be made longer.
“I said we were talking about framework plan projects. I said that the model we have or the models we have in various disciplines can no longer work. (…) The models we have failed. For 20 years we have been using such models in various disciplines, and the area of functional illiteracy, pseudo-knowledge, pseudo-religion, the respective area is not accepted for a modern country ”said Minister Daniel David.
The Minister of Education made the statements during an online intervention during the regional debate on the framework plans for the high school, an event organized on Tuesday at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University in Iași.
