James Cameron, the famous director, expressed his relief that he became Va-Zelandic citizen after the re-election of Donald Trump as president of the US, describing this situation as “a removal of everything that is decent.”

In an interview with the public to the public and quoted by The Guardian, the 70-year-old director said that the new Trump administration is “terrible ”: “I see that as a removal of everything that is decent. America represents nothing if it does not respect its historical values. It becomes an empty idea, and they empty it as quickly as they can in their own interest.”
After winning the Oscar for Avatar films, Cameron expressed his intentions to permanently move to New Zealand, where he owns a milk farm in 2012. The director explained that his definitive move to New Zealand was an assumed process: “It is something I worked for and for which I had to make sacrifices. If you move your family to another place, you have to get involved, to be part of the community, to win your place there.”
Although he recognizes that US policy has a global impact, Cameron says that life in New Zealand gives him some peace: “I don’t know if I feel more safe here, but at least I don’t have to see that on the first page every day. It’s tiring. In New Zealand, at least it appears on page three … I just don’t want to see that man’s face anymore. ”
Comparing New Zealand to his native country, Canada, Cameron emphasized the atmosphere of mutual respect: “I grew up in Canada and see here many similarities in the way people behave. I like it more here. There is a natural respect and a request for respect. All people are equal in terms of their human status. That’s what I wanted for my children.”
In 2023, the director expressed his intention to attract new talents in New Zealand cinema: “I am a resident here, I will become a citizen soon and I plan to make all my movies in Wellington. I love to work here. ”
