It is a crisis of doctors in the Intensive Care section of Saint Pantelimon Hospital in the Capital, and the situation is so serious that, starting in March, the section will close. It is the announcement made by the management of the hospital that asks for the help of the Ministry of Health. “We cannot work with only three doctors in ATI. If we do not be supported, if the situation will not be resolved, the hospital will no longer receive critical patients ”sources within the medical unit told “Adevărul”.
In the ATI section of Pantelimon Hospital there are only 5 doctors. Archive
In an official document sent to the Ministry of Health, the Department for Emergency Situations and Ambulance Services in the neighboring counties, the management of St. Panteimon Hospital in the Capital warns that, soon, patients in serious condition, who need intensive care, may no longer be admitted. Moreover, those already in the ATI section, left without proper care, could be redirected to other medical units.
Currently, the ATI section of Saint Pantelimon Hospital works in the damage system, with only five doctors, while five others are on vacation without payment. Among them are the two doctors arrested last year being accused of premeditated murder. In addition, four doctors have resigned, and at present two others have announced their departure.

The request sent by the hospital to the Ministry of Health and other institutions in the system
Patients threaten us, the people in the system are with our eyes on us
Officials from Pantelimon Hospital have confessed to us that the situation is dramatic. With the scandal that broke out last summer, when two doctors were accused of murder with premeditation, the image of the medical institution was extremely damaged. “And now, everyone runs away from Pantelimon, both patients and doctors. Do you think that after all the mosquito that was in the press was over, there were no repercussions? On the contrary! And now, from the moment they enter the door, many patients begin to complain about the services we offer before they actually benefit from them. It is assured from the beginning: I will do you and I will train you if you do not do this ”, The representatives of the hospital who have reached an aspect were confessed to us: “Of the five doctors I stayed with, two will leave in March. Because the hospital is not a bau-bau only for patients, but also for medical staff. He went on a treadmill, goes on, but no one comes to occupy the places left empty. ”
In its good times, the hospital worked with 16 doctors in the Intensive Care section. “Now, doctors bypass us, avoid us. I no longer want to come to our hospital, where there was and there is so much pressure. I am not talking about the fact that there are people in the system who not only monitor our activity, but look for us in the rush for anything to hurt us. Doctors refuse to work under such conditions. To be held responsible unjustified ”, the sources “Adevărul” also said.
The doctors, who agreed to speak only under the protection of anonymity, confessed to us that until now they could do as they could, but with only three medical staff in ATI will not cope. “We do not know what we will do, how we will handle it. However, what I can tell you with certainty is the fact that from March 3 we will not be able to provide the guard in ATI ”.

What to do? Who could remove the hospital from this crisis? “The Ministry of Health has known all the time what happens to us, in what situation we are. That we need doctors. And we expect concrete things, support, help from the decision makers. To encourage the detachment of the doctors, although a legal framework in this regard does not exist. For you cannot force a man to work where he does not want. You can just convince him .. if you can, ” the representatives of the hospital unit also said.
We are talking about a difficult, but not impossible attempt, because the good news came on Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Cătălina Poiană, the president of the Romanian College of Physicians, told a press conference that a wicker has already found a issued post. “A primary physician from CF 2 hospital was identified who is willing to come to Pantelimon. The doctor will have a meeting with the hospital management in a week. Then advanced and punctual discussions will take place. It will be an advantage because we are talking about a primary doctor who could take in guidance and residents ”.
Alis Grasu, the manager of the Bucharest Ambulance: “It will be an extremely difficult situation”
Dr. Alis Grasu, the general manager of the Bucharest-Ilfov Ambulance Service, told “Adevărul” that the institution has received the statement sent by the management of Pantelimon Hospital and will take all the measures that will be imposed. “I received this document and redirected it to the dispatcher. For now, however, we have nothing to do. At the moment, we can not remove the Pantelimon from the circuit. We are obliged by law to transport patients to the nearest competent emergency hospital that has the specialty necessary for the patient. If the hospital will not be able to internal the patient in the ATI, we will be called to redirect him to other hospital units ”.
However, if Pantelimon Hospital will officially announce the cessation of guards in ATI, the Bucharest Ambulance Protocol will also undergo changes, Alis Grasu continues. “The cases with potential will be directed from the beginning to other hospitals. At Pantelimon we will only place mild cases that do not require intensive care”.
But it will be a very difficult situation, admit Alis Grasu. “We will attend a huge pressure in the ATI sections of the other emergency medical units. You don’t even imagine what it means to close a section of such a big hospital. And so the sections, in general, are full, all the beds are busy. Will not be easy at all”.

And the doctors on the ambulance will work under pressure, continues the manager of the Bucharest-Ilfov Ambulance Service. “It will be a pressure on us because we will have to assume the transport of a critical patient over greater distances. It is about washing time wasted that could put the life of the patient in danger. In many situations any second matters. ”
Alis Grasu said that a solution should be found quickly for this section to continue to work. “We must all insist that the Pantelimon Emergency Hospital will not lose its ATI. A solution must be found to hire doctors. Free positions exist, they can deal with doctors who gave the residency last year, but also with those who will take the exam this year. But you have no way to force a doctor to work where he does not want to, ” Acknowledges, however, the doctor.

Carmen Pantiș, ATI doctor and the vice -president of the Romanian College of Physicians. Archive
The work in ATI is very difficult, said Dr. Carmen Pantiș, a doctor at the Emergency Hospital in Oradea and the vice -president of the Romanian College. “It is a great responsibility to be a doctor in ATI. He is the soul of a hospital. Without the Guard line in ATI the hospital cannot work. For us, for example, at the hospital in Oradea, there are 24 anesthetists and 5 guard lines, but even so, the challenges are very large ”.
In the intensive care sections there is extremely high pressure due to the emergencies that are presented daily in the UPU, the doctor continues. “I am convinced that the situation in Pantelimon will be resolved. Must be resolved. Things can’t stay that way. They will find solutions for sure. Even if, in general, the doctors have their dissatisfaction. It is about a very large volume of work, but also the law of malpraxis is invoked, because they do not defend them at all ”, Dr. Pantiș said.
