According to the legislative initiative, drug -dependent consumers could be admitted without consent in situations where they are an imminent danger to themselves or other people, they do not have the psychic ability to understand the condition of serious mental disorders. Also, the measure could apply to minors or persons put under prohibition, informs AGERPRES.
“Non -voluntary hospitalization can be perceived as a form that violates the rights of the patient, but if the person represents a danger to themselves or others, it can be admitted by the non -voluntary hospitalization procedure.”, Explained the initiators of the project.
The request for non -voluntary hospitalization can be made by the family, the psychiatrist or the authorized bodies (representatives of the local public administration, police, gendarmerie, prosecutor, civil court), based on a written request containing the patient and the reasons justifying the hospitalization.
The initiators claim that Romania needs a radical change in approaching drug use, inspired by international models. “It is essential to support consuming persons to access specialized services and thus reduce the number of deaths, respectively of hospitalizations ”the parliamentarians said.
The project will be analyzed first in the Senate, and the final decision will belong to the Chamber of Deputies.
