The Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse managed a victory without a right of appeal on Friday, in front of the French Jesiika Ponchet, a local favorite of the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen, in a match that lasted an hour and 12 minutes.

After two consecutive sets clearly won, 6-2, 6-2, Gabriela Ruse has qualified for the semifinals of the women’s tournament in France, and the next stage could bring it to her favorite, Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina, according to Eurosport.

The Romanian arrived on Wednesday, after passing in two sets by Camilla Rosatello (288th WTA), with a score of 6-0, 6-4, in a match that lasted an hour and 20 minutes.

In the qualifications for the semifinals, she met Jesiika Ponchet on Friday, the 28-year-old Frenchwoman who climbed the world in the world ranking, up to 104, and has no WTA title.

The match started with Jesiika Ponchet at work, but the Romanian managed to get two break balls quickly, capitalizing on the second. He followed a range on his own service, in which Ruse gave up a single point. At 3-1, Ponchet (146th WTA) lost his service again, and Ruse has strengthened his advantage. He maintained control by the end of the set, which he won 6-2 in just 34 minutes.

The second set started excellent for our player, who distanced at 3-0, thanks to two breaks. However, a moment of relaxation allowed the opponent to win for the first time on the Romanian service, but Gabriela Ruse regained the difference of three games, closing the second set with 6-2.

The Romanian tennis has exceeded its own performance from this tournament by qualifying in the semifinals, last year it stops in the quarters, after losing in front of Caroline Garcia.

In the next round, Gabriela Ruse is about to meet the winner of the duel between Elina Svitolina and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. Ukrainian, in 18th place in the WTA world ranking, is the main favorite of the competition and has not lost any set so far in the WTA 250 tournament.
