Summer is a good season for fishing. Especially because it is a period of holidays and the fishermen can take enough time to give fish. The good news is that in Romania even the most demanding and pretentious amateur or professional fishermen can find ideal waters. Beyond the very well -known and famous places among the fishermen, such as the Danube Delta, there are also fishing paradises little known to the general public. They are rather the jewelry of nature known especially by the locals. Some would not even reveal them, for fear that visitors would not multiply.
The paradise in the “Country of Ponds”
One of these places blessed by God, including for fishermen, is Botosani County. This land has over 150 ponds and two large rivers, rich in fish. Botosaniul is the second county in Romania, after Tulcea, as the surface of the water gloss. For a fisherman, Botosani is a real paradise. Find almost everything he wants. Either walks on quiet ponds, full of fish, or pulls on the banks of the Prut, in a wild and picturesque environment. Renowned are the ponds from Dracșani, Hănești, Negreni and Rogojești. Are a kind of seas in the middle of the plain. Here you have even the breeze. “At Botosani, fishermen come from all the neighboring counties. And this is because wonderful fishing places, including record catches”confesses Cosmin Humelnicu, director of the County Association of Botosani Sports Hunters and Fishermen. Each pond has its specificity, with a multitude of choices. For example, who wants carp, red or caras, it would be good to go to the ponds in Dragalina or Costești. In Hănești, a pond with impressive dimensions can be found, sleep, carp, plate, novac and caras. In Rogojești and Dracșani, you can find anything. Prut fishing offers special sensations.

It is a very picturesque area with a watercourse that separates in the arms, strains on the small islands and offers a paradiac space for any fisherman. The amateurs of this ancestral custom can be housed in small bays or they can relax on the extraordinary beaches created by the river that separates us from the Republic of Moldova. At the Prut you can stay at the tent, in the middle of the wild. The condition is to have a permit targeted by the fisherman, but also the identity documents in case of control. Let us not forget that the Prut is the homeland of sleep, and the catches are record. In the case of ponds, most are private and a fishing fee must be paid. The rates vary between 70 and 150 lei, with fishing periods from 10 to 24 hours. “As a diversity of species we are very good. Starting from Caras, carp, skin, avat, sleep, pike. Apart from sturgeons we have all the fish species found in Romania”adds Cosmin Humelnicu.
The country of the 100 ponds
Another ideal location for fishermen is Galați County. It is about a territory crossed by two large rivers and a river. On a length of 300 kilometers, the county is crossed by the Danube, but also by the rivers that come precisely from the north of Moldova, Siret and Prut. In addition to these large watercourses there are numerous ponds. That is, around 100.
Most are plain ponds, a soothing beauty and where you can rely on you find fish. Famous among the locals is Lake Zătun, located on the Danube, only eight kilometers from Galați. Here you can catch carp, caras, twilight, plate, red. Nor are the kidnappers missing, such as the pike. Movila ponds, located only eight kilometers from Galați and Potcova, near Braniștea, also have their charm. But especially they are rich in fish.
The paradise in the middle of the Bărăgan
Another place, little known at national level, but especially appreciated by the locals, is Lake Strachina, from Ialomița county. It is located 130 kilometers from Bucharest and should be visited at least once in life by passionate fishermen. It is part of a protected natural area, spread over 1050 hectares. In this place where civilization is lost the fishermen can find the tranquility, but also the ideal capture. In the lake that covers an area of 1000 hectares, in the middle of Bărăgan, there are fish of all kinds.

But especially carp, caras, sleep and phytophagus. During fishing, hiking enthusiasts in picturesque and quiet areas can admire the many species of protected birds that make their age in this protected area. The fishing season, on Strachina, begins in the spring and ends late autumn. Fishermen have three basins available, and fishing is counter-cost.
