Bronze popovici. The Romanian champion also has imperfect races at the Europeans in Slovakia

The Romanian athlete David Popovici (20 years old) has put a medal around the neck, at the European Under-2 from Samorin (Slovakia), finishing in 3rd place in the 50-meter free test, one in which he is not a specialist.

David Popovici won this evening a new medal at the European Swimming Championships in Slovakia, the bronze in the 50 -meter free sample. It is the second for the Olympic champion and the third for the Romanian delegation at the Samorin competition. Another Romanian will fight for medals this evening, Rebecca Diaconescu being qualified in the final at 400 meters free.

After qualifying in the final with the second best time in the series, 22.02 seconds, David Popovici, who is not familiar with such short tests, stopped the stopwatch this evening at 21.86 seconds.

The Romanian was surpassed by the Portuguese Diogo Ribeiro, who won the gold with a time of 21.67 seconds, and the Ukrainian Vladislav Bukhov, who finished the race in 21.74 seconds.

This evening bronze is the second medal that the Paris 2024 Olympic champion obtained, these days, at the Slovakia and third competition for the Romanian delegation.

David Popovici climbed the podium and yesterday, on the first day of competition, when he reached the final at 200 meters free, in which he got a better time than the one who brought gold at last year’s Olympic Games.
